Leeds United legend Eddie Gray believes if Aston Villa can sort out their internal issues they will be a force in the Championship next season, as he warned the Whites that next term is only going to be harder.

The Villans have endured a dire Premier League campaign, and their relegation was confirmed when they lost to Manchester United at Old Trafford last weekend, with still four games left in the season.

Villa have just won three games, their last one came in February, and have lost a staggering 24 league games, which has resulted in them posting just 16 points on the league table this term.

They are already being considered one of the worst sides in the Premier League era, but Leeds legend Gray feels there could be light at the end of the tunnel for the Villans next season in the Championship.

Talking about Leeds’ hopes of finishing in the playoff spots next season, Gray added that they should be worried about the relegated Premier League teams; especially Villa who he feels can become dangerous if they can clear the mess behind the scenes.

The Leeds legend said on LUTV: “A few of the players are trying to sway Steve [Evans’] mind, the fans’ minds that they are good enough to get into the top six.

“But you have to remember that it is going to be tougher next year, with the three teams who are coming down to the Premier League, whoever they are.

“We know one of them and they will be a danger if they get their house in order.

"A good start to next season will be important for us.”

Tim Sherwood and Remi Garde lost their jobs at Aston Villa this season due to the club’s poor performances and they are expected to have someone new on board by the time their Championship campaign kicks off.
