Chelsea youth coach Joe Edwards is proud of the mentality shown by his players to keep winning under pressure, as the Blues clinched their third straight FA Youth Cup last night.

The Blues have one of the best academies in England and they possess one of the strongest youth teams in Europe, a side who have consistently won trophies in England and on the continent over the last few seasons.

The west London outfit won their fifth FA Youth Cup title in seven years last night, beating Manchester City with a 4-2 aggregate scoreline and also won the UEFA Youth League for the second season running.

Despite being favourites to win last night, Edwards admits that his players were under pressure to perform against a top team and has lauded his team’s mentality to keep performing and winning, despite the weight of expectations.

He told Chelsea TV: “There was a lot of pressure on them.

“It was the fifth final [in a row], Man City coming back for revenge, they are an academy on the up – so there was a lot of pressure on them.

“To see it out in such a manner; obviously they won the UEFA Youth League last week, but to keep winning and winning under so much pressure, they deserve so much credit.”

Chelsea will be hoping that some of the players from last night’s team manage to graduate to the senior team as despite the success of their youth teams, the Blues have struggled to produce a regular first teamer in recent seasons.
