Erik Sviatchenko thinks although it has been a bumpy season for Celtic, securing a fifth successive Scottish Premiership title would still be a significant achievement for his side.

The Bhoys, who will win the league title if they manage to bag the full three points against Heart of Midlothian later in the day, have however fared poorly in cup competitions on both domestic and European fronts.

Celtic failed to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League and were knocked out of the semi-final of both the Scottish Cup and the Scottish League Cup; the Hoops also did not manage to cross the Europa League group stage hurdle.

As a result, Sviatchenko underlined the importance of Celtic, whose present manager Ronny Deila will step down from his post after the end of the season, winning the Scottish Premiership title for the fifth straight time.

“It’s very important”, the defender said in his pre-match press conference yesterday.

“We have to remember that it’s an achievement. You never ease up until you have secured something.

“Now we’re trying to secure a fifth in a row. It’s not everywhere you see that.

“Even though it has been a season with bumps it’s still an achievement and we have to remember that.

“All players develop and we have new players as well so you see that it’s important to feel the positivity that we need for the rest of the games.

“It’s very important to create a good atmosphere and the fans have a big part in that.”

Sviatchenko, who joined Celtic from Danish outfit FC Midtjylland during the January transfer window, has thus far made 14 appearances in all competitions for the Scottish giants.
