Eliaquim Mangala has insisted that although Manchester City are “proud” of their achievements in the Champions League this season, his side’s ultimate aim is to win the continental competition.

The Citizens, who beat French champions Paris Saint-Germain to progress to the last four stage of the Champions League, played out a goalless draw with Real Madrid in the semi-final first leg at the Etihad Stadium last week.

Manchester City will now look to progress to the final by claiming a positive result against Los Blancos at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday.

The Premier League outfit, who are fully focussed on their trip to Spain, fielded a weakened team against Southampton and were thrashed 4-2 at St. Mary's Stadium yesterday.

And Mangala explained that Manchester City will give their all against Real Madrid to realise their ambition of reaching the Champions League final.

“Our aim is to win the Champions League – that was always the project. We are improving and we want to keep playing in this way”, the defender told the club’s official site.

“We don’t want to stay in the semi-final and think we’ve done well – we want more. We want to reach the final and now we are so close that ambition.

“I am proud of what we’ve done so far. It is very special for every player to play in the semi-final and the possibility of playing in a final – maybe even winning the Champions League.

“This is a very important moment for all of us and for my career, it is something very special.”

Manchester City are currently fourth in the Premier League with 64 points from 36 outings.
