Ex-Chelsea defender Jason Cundy wants to see the Blues field their youngsters against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light next weekend and does not care about the implications in the Premier League relegation scrap.

Sunderland are currently battling against Norwich City and Newcastle United, with essentially only one of the three teams likely to avoid relegation down to the Championship.

Chelsea head to Sunderland on Saturday and all three points would be precious for Sam Allardyce's men. Both Newcastle and Norwich will be hoping Chelsea field a full strength side to tackle the Black Cats, but Cundy wants to see the Blues give chances to their youngsters and he does not care whether the relegation battle is affected as a result.

Speaking on Chelsea TV following the Blues' 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night, Cundy was told that Guus Hiddink cannot possibly play the youngsters at Sunderland and replied: "I don't see why not. I don't care. Life isn't fair.

"This is about Chelsea", he continued.

"I'm sorry, we've seen it [weakened teams played] before when teams get into the knockout stage of the Champions League and the semi-final.

"Guus has got to do the best for Chelsea. The fact that it's Sunderland away is irrelevant.

"I'd love to see some of these young players get an opportunity, I really would", Cundy added.

Chelsea have little left to play for this season, but Hiddink will be keen to leave Stamford Bridge on a high by guiding the Blues to a strong finish in their final three league games.
