Rangers assistant manager David Weir has explained that the Gers stars deserve the praise they have been receiving due to their impressive performances this season.

Mark Warburton’s team secured the Scottish Championship with four games to spare and also won the Challenge Cup last month before beating their arch-rivals Celtic on penalties in the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden on 17th April.

Rangers will now return to the top flight for the first time since they had to start in the fourth tier following their liquidation in 2012.

And Weir, who joined Rangers with Warburton last summer, insisted that he was pleased to see the players responding positively to their coaching methods and achieving success in the cups and the league.

“The players have worked exceptionally hard this season, the goal has been clear in regards to what is expected of them and what is perceived as being successful”, he was quoted as saying by Rangers’ official site.

“They’ve achieved that and they’ve achieved it with time to spare, so they deserve the accolades that are coming their way.

“It’s never easy to win a league, any league, so they have done that and deserve everything that goes with it.”

“They have worked hard from day one in terms of how they have trained, how they have conducted themselves and doing what Mark and I have asked them to do.

“So we’re really happy with the response we have had from them and all we wanted was for them to get the rewards they deserve.”

Rangers, who have failed to win any of their four league games since the victory in the Old Firm derby, will face Tottenham Hotspur in a friendly next week to prepare for the Scottish Cup final against Hibernian on 21st May.
