Roma have identified Sunderland left-back Patrick van Aanholt as a possible summer target if they fail to make Lucas Digne’s loan move permanent at the end of the season, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato.

Van Aanholt, who joined Sunderland from Chelsea in 2014, has been in good form in the present campaign, scoring four goals and providing two assists in 34 appearances in all competitions.

Although the Dutchman’s present contract with Sunderland runs until 2018, the 25-year-old may quit the Black Cats in the summer if they fail to avoid relegation; the Stadium of Light outfit are currently 18th in the Premier League with 32 points from 35 outings.

On the other hand, Roma are yet to a agree a fee with Paris Saint-Germain to make Digne’s move to the Stadio Olimpico permanent after the end of the season.

The French international has thus far made 40 appearances in all competitions, scoring three times and providing five assists since joining Roma from PSG on a season-long loan deal last summer.
