Initial diagnosis suggests that Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld's knee injury is not serious, according to Belgian daily Het Laatste Nieuws.

The 27-year-old, who joined Tottenham from Atletico Madrid last summer, sustained the injury in injury time of the 2-2 draw with Chelsea in the Premier League on Monday.

Alderweireld had to be substituted at Stamford Bridge as the draw ended Spurs’ title charge.

However, Pochettino explained after the game that he felt the Belgian international’s injury is nothing to worry about and initial tests reveal that the Tottenham manager was right.

Alderweireld has been in fine form for Tottenham at both ends of the pitch; while the centre-back helped the White Hart Lane outfit to have the best defensive record in the Premier League this season, he has also scored four goals and provided two assists in 36 league games.
