Manchester City and Liverpool goalkeeping target Marc-Andre ter Stegen is set to continue at Barcelona beyond the summer, according to Catalan daily Sport.

The future of the 23-year-old German has been the subject of speculation for months and there have been suggestions that Manchester City and Liverpool are keen to snare him away from Barcelona in the summer.

Ter Stegen’s frustration at not being the first choice goalkeeper at the club in La Liga fuelled the rumours surrounding his future at the Nou Camp and it has been claimed that Barcelona have already rejected a €20m offer from an unnamed English club in recent months.

The Barcelona hierarchy are in no mood to sell the talented German shot-stopper in the next transfer window, and have informed Ter Stegen and his representatives that a transfer is not going to take place in the summer.

The Catalan giants have managed to convince Ter Stegen, despite his reservations, that the club see him as their future number one and he has an important part to play for Barcelona in the coming years.

Ter Stegen is ready to compete with Claudio Bravo for the club’s number one jersey next season and be more than just a goalkeeper for the cup competitions for Barcelona.

The German has a contract until 2019 with the club.
