Ex-Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer has asked the Reds to be brave and more clinical in front of goal to see off Villarreal's challenge tonight.

Adrian Lopez struck a late winner at the Madrigal last week in the first leg to get Villarreal an advantage coming into the return leg at Anfield, but Liverpool are fancying their chances of getting a positive result in front of their own supporters.

The Reds came back from the dead at Anfield to eliminate Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals and McAteer believes they need to show the same kind of spirit against their Spanish opponents tonight.

Liverpool missed a few golden opportunities to get an away goal last week, and the former midfielder feels they need to be a lot more clinical as in such European ties chances come at a premium.

While previewing the game for LFC TV, McAteer said: “It’s a game for the brave players, as the atmosphere is going to be electric; they have sampled that against Borussia Dortmund.

“They will need to keep the ball better; need to be clinical, this is what the European ties are all about, you are not going to get a lot of chances.”

Liverpool will also have to guard against conceding an away goal as that could take the tie beyond their reach and Villarreal are expected to set up to hit them on the break.
