Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes feels Celtic should be saluted for their consistency in the Scottish Premiership, despite it coming amidst a backdrop of failure in Europe and also in the two domestic cup competitions.

McInnes' team have no chance of pipping Celtic to the title as despite being nine points behind with three games to play, their goal difference is hugely inferior to the Hoops'.

Crediting Ronny Deila's side for the way they have approached the league challenge, the 44-year-old manager said that huge credit has to be given to the Bhoys for their effort.

McInnes noted that Celtic have failed in Europe and in domestic cup competitions, but he believes the Bhoys should still be saluted for remaining so consistent in the league, as they seal their fifth top flight title in a row.

"Celtic deserve huge credit for their league challenge", McInnes was quoted as saying by STV.

"I've talked about us maybe expecting more from our league campaign, they probably expected more as they spoke openly about a treble, getting to the Champions League group stages.

"They failed in all of that but their league form was good.

"They've only lost three games this season, twice against us and their points tally to win the league will be up there with what most teams normally win a league by.

"They deserve credit for that."

Celtic, who will be under new management next season, will look to ensure they can reach the Champions League group stage next season. They will be in qualifying action in the early summer.
