Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele has accepted a Football Association charge of violent conduct for clashing with Chelsea’s Diego Costa, according to the Press Association.

The incident took place during the first half of Tottenham’s 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge in a Premier League game on Monday night.

Although the incident skipped the eyes of the match officials, it was later caught on video, and the FA insisted that the Belgium international’s violent conduct may warrant more than the standard three-match ban.

Dembele has accepted the charge, but Spurs are expected to contest the ban length if it runs over three games.

Tottenham and Chelsea were also charged with failing to control their players and/or officials, with three breaches of FA Rule E20 alleged.

The two London clubs have until Monday to respond to the charge, which saw scuffles both on and off the pitch at either end of the half-time break, with a fracas ensuing even after the final whistle.
