Renowned Dutch fitness coach Raymond Verheijen says he is not surprised Tottenham Hotspur have crumbled in the final straight of the season, explaining he sees a pattern with Mauricio Pochettino's team.

Spurs were firmly in the title race until a 2-2 draw away at Chelsea last Monday allowed Leicester City to win the title. And today, Tottenham went down to a surprise 2-1 defeat at home to Southampton, something which puts Arsenal within touching distance of overhauling Pochettino's side in second.

Verheijen explained he is not surprised to see Spurs slipping up and claims that he sees a pattern.

The fitness coach wrote on Twitter: "Not surprised to see Pochettino's team crumble again in last 10 games of season (only 16 points) after 25 pts in previous 10 games. Pattern.

"Leicester City: 24 points in last 10 games. Tottenham: 16 points in last 10 games. Freshness. Less is more. Quality over quantity", he added.

Tottenham's final game of the season is away against relegation battlers Newcastle United next Sunday, while Arsenal host already relegated Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium.

If Spurs drop points at St. James' Park and Arsenal beat Villa, then Arsene Wenger's men, rather than Pochettino's side, would finish second behind Leicester this season.
