A leading Irish bookmaker has suspended betting on Roy Keane becoming the next Celtic manager, but club insisted that no decision is imminent.

Ronny Deila will be departing the club shortly after delivering Celtic’s five straight league title last weekend, and a number of candidates have already been linked with the manager’s post at Parkhead.

Keane has been one of those who have been mooted to succeed the Norweigian at Celtic and the speculation has reached fever pitch in recent hours as top Irish bookmakers BoyleSports suspended betting on the next manager’s identity.

Liam Glynn, a spokesperson for the bookmakers, was quoted as saying by the Daily Record: “We have had to suspend betting on the next Celtic manager after an avalanche of support for Roy Keane over the past 24 hours.

“We couldn’t lay a single cent on original favourite Martin O’Neill over the past 48 hours, it’s all been about Roy Keane and it has given our traders no other choice but to suspend the market as it now looks like he has been in talks with the Celtic management and things have gone smoothly so far.”

However, the Celtic management have denied that any decision on the next manager’s identity is imminent, according to BBC Scotland, and the club are still identifying candidates.

Keane is currently serving as Martin O’Neil’s number two in the Republic of Ireland’s national team set-up.

He played for Celtic at the end of his career after he left Manchester United, following a spat with Sir Alex Ferguson.
