Rangers legend Ally McCoist has revealed how he showed his players at Ibrox footage of striker Gary Hooper, so impressed was he with the then Celtic hitman.

McCoist was initially assistant at Rangers, graduating to become manager, while Hooper was plying his trade for rivals Celtic, something he did until moving to Norwich City in 2013.

Norwich let Hooper go to Sheffield Wednesday this season, something which is increasingly being seen as a mistake due to their relegation from the Premier League, caused in part due to a lack of goals; Hooper has regularly netted for Wednesday in the Championship.

McCoist has revealed that he is a big fan of the 28-year-old striker and explained that he showed his players at Rangers footage of Hooper in action to highlight his intense desire.

"I liked Hooper and I still like Hooper", McCoist said on BBC Radio 5 live last night.

"I remember Hooper scored a goal against us [Rangers] at Celtic Park where he makes a run from the halfway line on the left hand side.

"I watched it and I showed our players it.

"He just has a desire to run and run and just get on the end of a cross. You can't buy that, you can't teach that", McCoist continued.

"He scores goals and he's been doing it again at Sheffield Wednesday."

Hooper has played a big part in helping Sheffield Wednesday finish in the Championship playoff places this season, handing the Owls a shot at promotion to the Premier League.
