Belgium coach Marc Wilmots feels that Nacer Chadli did not play enough with Tottenham Hotspur of late to warrant a spot in his squad for Euro 2016.

The Spurs winger was left out by Wilmots and is now all set to miss the tournament in France this summer, meaning he will not be able to add to his 30 Red Devils caps.

Wilmots says that selecting his squad was tough, but he had to take into account the lack of playing time afforded to the former FC Twente player at White Hart Lane in recent months.

Indeed, Chadli has managed just 45 minutes of football for Spurs in their last nine games, being restricted to substitute appearances for a handful of minutes on more than one occasion.

"It was not an easy choice, but we've done our job", Wilmots told a press conference today.

"Nacer experienced, as did Thorgan Hazard and Kevin Mirallas, a difficult season.

"In recent months, he has not played so often with Tottenham and in my opinion he is not 100 per cent ready."

Chadli has however been included on Wilmots' standby list, which means his Euro 2016 dream has not died yet, though it does depend on injuries within the squad and the coach picking the Spurs man to step up and replace the absent player.
