Andros Townsend has delighted at being named in England's provisional Euro 2016 squad by Three Lions manager Roy Hodgson.

Hodgson has chosen to hand the Newcastle United winger a call-up and Townsend is now looking to impress the England boss to earn his spot in the 23-man squad; Hodgson has named 26 players in his provisional squad and must cut the number to 23 by the end of May.

Townsend feels honoured to be selected and wrote on Twitter: "Huge honour to be named in the provisional England squad for the Euros.

"Will give my all over next few weeks to try and make final squad!"

The news is a boost for Townsend, who has just suffered the pain of relegation from the Premier League with Newcastle, despite starring in the Magpies' bid for survival.

The winger has won ten caps for England since making his Three Lions debut in 2013, scoring three goals in the process.

Townsend's chances of making the final cut may be helped by the fact that with Raheem Sterling he is one of only two natural wingers in Hodgson's provisional squad.
