West Ham United have confirmed that Borussia Monchengladbach defensive midfielder Havard Nordtveit will join the club on a free transfer on 1st July.

Nordtveit, who has signed a five-year deal with the Hammers, joined the German outfit from Arsenal in December 2010.

And the Norway international insists that he is relishing the prospect of playing in the Premier League with West Ham, something he failed to achieve during his time at Arsenal.

“It has always been a dream for me to play in the Premier League and now I have a big opportunity to do that for West Ham – I cannot wait to start!” Nordtveit told the club’s official site.

“This team has something special, a spirit in the team that I can fit into. I will work hard and hopefully I can get some good moments at this club.

“I’m a player who can play many roles on the pitch, but I’m from Norway so maybe a little bit more running, tackles and try to spread a few balls around me.

“I’m looking forward to showing what I can do, but hopefully I have something to help West Ham achieve even more.”

Nordtveit made 39 appearances in all competitions in the present campaign, scoring four times and providing one assist, and despite the Bundesliga club’s best efforts, he decided not to extend his stay at Borussia-Park beyond the end of the season.

The 25-year-old was snapped up by Arsenal from Haugesund in 2007, but he failed to make a single senior appearance for the Gunners.

During his time at Arsenal, Nordtveit had loan spells at Salamanca, Lillestrom and Nurnberg.

The holding midfielder has 28 caps and two goals for Norway to his name.
