West Ham United legend Trevor Morley has warned the club's newest recruit Havard Nordtveit that he will not walk into the team at the Olympic Stadium.

The Hammers announced earlier today that they have secured Nordtveit on a five-year contract and he will join on 1st July when his contract with Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach runs out.

Morley thinks that the Norway international is joining West Ham at just the right time, but he cautioned Nordtveit that he will not be able to walk straight into the team due to the fine performances of Mark Noble and Cheikhou Koyate.

"It's fantastic for him. It's a great time to move to London. He is 25 years old. He has gained some experience in the Bundesliga. I imagine he had some offers, so I think West Ham are also pleased to secure him", Morley told TV2.

"Mark Noble and Cheikhou Koyate have been brilliant this season, so there's going to be tough competition", the former striker continued.

"Nordtveit is not going to walk into the team. He must take the chance when he gets it."

The defensive midfielder will not be completely new to the English game however, having spent time at Arsenal earlier in his career, albeit without making a senior appearance for the Gunners.

He joins a West Ham side hopeful of being in the Europa League next season, but needing Manchester United to beat West Ham in the FA Cup final to book their ticket.
