Sunderland forward Fabio Borini’s agent admits that Inter Milan came close to signing the Italian last summer, but has stressed that his client has no plans to return to Italy for the moment.

After months of speculation Borini left Liverpool and joined Sunderland towards the end of the last summer transfer window and the Italian played a key role in helping the Black Cats to survive in the Premier League this season.

However, the 25-year-old was also heavily linked with a move back to Italy, with a number of top Serie A outfits believed to be keen to take him back to his homeland.

And Roberto De Fanti, Borini’s agent, admits that the Nerazzurri were on the verge of snapping him up before the forward decided to continue playing in the Premier League.

He added that at the moment Borini has little interest in returning to Italy and is happy with life on Wearside.

The player’s agent told Italian outlet Tutto Mercato: “To tell the truth, last year Inter came close [to signing Borini].

“But then we chose to continue his adventure in the Premier League.

"I think he is happy to play for his current club and I see no reason why he would want to move back to Italy.”

Borini scored five goals and two assists in 26 Premier League appearances for the Black Cats this season.
