Sevilla defender Timothee Kolodziejczak insists his side knew they were technically superior to Liverpool after their 3-1 win over the Reds in the Europa League final on Wednesday night.

Jurgen Klopp’s team started the game positively and headed into the half-time break 1-0 up, courtesy of Daniel Sturridge’s 35th minute strike.

But Sevilla equalised just 17 seconds after the restart through Kevin Gameiro before a brace by Coke helped the Spanish club to win the Europa League for the third straight time.

And Kolodziejczak, who admitted that Sevilla upped their game at St. Jakob-Park after the break, also explained that his side became a more physical outfit in the second half.

“We started the second half with a lot more desire", he told AFP.

“And we knew that, technically, we were better than them, although we also stepped up our game physically."

The loss against Sevilla ended Liverpool’s hope of playing in Europe next season; the Merseyside giants finished eighth in the Premier League campaign.

A win in Basel would have enabled Liverpool to qualify directly to the group stage of next season’s Champions League.
