Former England and West Ham midfielder Trevor Sinclair feels Manchester United are giving in to the ‘dark side’ by appointing Jose Mourinho as the club’s new manager.

Manchester United sacked Louis van Gaal last night after agreeing a compensation package with him and Jorge Mendes is set to hold final talks with the club hierarchy over a deal which would see Mourinho sit in the Old Trafford hot seat.

While the talks are expected to progress smoothly, the club are not expected to confirm the Portuguese’s appointment by the end of the day as they want to thrash out the finer details of the contract with his agent.

However, Mourinho is likely to become the next Manchester United manager and Sinclair believes the club are going against their ethos by appointing some such as the former Chelsea boss.

The former midfielder said on BBC Radio 5 live: “If they do bring in Jose Mourinho, then it’s a massive change of stance for Manchester United.

Mourinho has a history of falling out with players and high ranking officials but Manchester United will be hoping the Portuguese has learned his lessons.
