Bristol Rovers have offered a new three-year contract to Darrell Clarke to keep him out of Leeds United’s hands this summer.

Leeds are eyeing the 38-year-old as Steve Evans’ successor at Elland Road and made a formal approach for him last night. However, Bristol Rovers are keen to hold on to the talented young coach.

It has been suggested that Bristol Rovers have set a number of pre-conditions with Massimo Cellino if he wants to speak to Clarke and are anticipating another formal approach from Leeds soon.

According to the Bristol Post, the club chairman Steve Hamer met Clarke yesterday afternoon to discuss the matter in anticipation of Leeds’ move and has offered him a new and improved three-year contract.

The 38-year-old is currently on a one-year rolling contract at Bristol Rovers and the club are keen to show that they have faith in his abilities with their new three-year offer.

While Bristol Rovers are also not expected to stand in his way if Clarke decides to move to Leeds, they are expected to demand a six-figure compensation package from the Yorkshire giants.

On the other hand current Leeds boss Evans has revealed that he is disappointed at being kept in dark about his future at the club, but remains keen to carry out his duties until he is told otherwise.
