Former Manchester United coach Rene Muelensteen believes Jose Mourinho’s in-depth knowledge about the Premier League will put him at an advantage over rivals such as Pep Guardiola and Antonio Conte next season.
Mourinho is expected to conclude talks with Manchester United this week and take charge of the club, who sacked Louis van Gaal on Monday night after an underwhelming season.
Manchester City will also see a managerial change at the top with Guardiola taking over from Manuel Pellegrini this summer and Conte will take the reins of Chelsea after the European Championship.
While Guardiola and Conte are fresh entrants to the Premier League, Mourinho has won the league three times with Chelsea and Muelensteen believes the Portuguese will make the most of his knowledge about the top tier of English football at Manchester United next season.
The Dutchman said on BBC Radio 5 live: “Mourinho is obviously a manager with a proven track record in winning things, he knows the Premier League and there is an advantage to that, with him coming to United.

“For Guardiola it will be a new challenge as he doesn’t know the Premier League, the same with Conte at Chelsea and I am sure it makes a difference.
“Mourinho will take advantage of that.”
Mourinho has already agreed personal terms with Manchester United and the club are now finalising the finer details of their agreement with the Portuguese.
