Leeds United head coach Steve Evans has hit out at the club's owner Massimo Cellino, who has claimed he is chasing "someone special" as the club's new boss.

Cellino brought Evans in to succeed Uwe Rosler in October and gave the Scot the job of driving the Whites away from relegation danger. Evans, who was only able to sign three players, two of whom were on loan, during his time at the club and lost Sam Byram, led Leeds to a 13th place finish in the Championship.

But Cellino is looking at other options as head coach, with Bristol Rovers' Darrell Clarke the current favourite to take Evans' job.

Evans, who is under contract with Leeds until the end of June, has hit out at Cellino and says he presumes the new boss will be told to win the Championship with the Whites.

Reacting to Cellino's quotes about chasing "someone special" as head coach, Evans was quoted as saying by the Yorkshire Evening Post: "I'm happy to step aside if the new coach is one of the best around. The supporters deserve that.

"I'm confident I would lead us to promotion so I presume the remit is now to be champions", he added.

Cellino has yet to speak to Evans about his future at Leeds, even though he has been approaching managers to succeed the Scot.

Evans has been left in limbo, however has still been carrying out his duties as Leeds boss.
