Manchester United are in pole position to sign Valencia midfielder Andre Gomes this summer, but Juventus are yet to lose hope of signing the Portuguese, according to Italian broadcaster SportItalia.

The Bianconeri have been on Gomes’ case for months and are keen to take him to Turin this summer, as they look to bolster their midfield ahead of the new season.

However, the Italian champions are reluctant to pay the €40m fee that Valencia are demanding up front, and Juventus are also battling to convince Jorge Mendes to take his client to Italy.

On the other hand Manchester United are ready to pay the fee up front, and new manager Jose Mourinho is also said to be keen to see Gomes play at Old Trafford next season.

Mendes is also Mourinho’s agent and it has been claimed that he has promised his compatriot that he will bring the players he wants at Manchester United this summer.

While Manchester United are believed to be the favourites to land the Portugal international, the Italian champions are ready to stay in the chase for him until the end.
