Liverpool are probing the possibility of signing Aston Villa full-back Jordan Amavi this summer, according to French sports daily L’Equipe.

The defender joined the Villans from Nice last summer, but has been out of action since November with a serious knee injury and is still recuperating from the setback.

Aston Villa suffered relegation from the Premier League last season, and Amavi is considering leaving the club as it has been suggested that he could have a number of offers on his table once he recovers this summer.

And it has been claimed Liverpool are one of the clubs who have contacted the player’s representatives over a summer move to Anfield once the defender becomes fit.

With Alberto Moreno showing little signs of being consistent, Jurgen Klopp is keen to add a left-back to his squad in the transfer window, and Amavi is one of the names on his shortlist.

However, the Reds could face stiff competition for the Frenchman’s signature as AC Milan and two other French clubs, including Lyon, are keeping close tabs on the defender’s situation.

Roberto Di Matteo took charge of Aston Villa earlier this week and it remains to be seen whether he is keen to have a fit Amavi in his squad for next season or will consider selling him this summer.

Aston Villa are expected to listen to offers in the region of €14m for Amavi.
