Newly appointed Leeds United boss Garry Monk has spoken about his strong desire to bring in Pep Clotet as his deputy at Elland Road.

Monk and Clotet worked closely with each other at Swansea City, with the 39-year-old fulfilling the role of Monk's right hand man.

However, Clotet left his post after Monk was sacked by the club following a string of poor results back in December.

Monk, who officially took over from Steve Evans on Thursday, will now be looking to appoint his backroom staff and insists that it will be extremely crucial for him to have his former assistant manager at his side.

According to Monk, Clotet and himself have an incredible relationship with each other and would love to work together again. Monk also worked with Kristian O’Leary and James Beattie at Swansea though and it is yet to be known whether those two will also follow suit.

“Pep is definitely one of them [I’d like to bring in] and hopefully that will come or be finalised over the next few days”, Monk said in his press conference on Thursday.

“I have had an incredible relationship with him.

“He is an excellent coach, a top calibre coach who brings a lot to the table and will help obviously in the way that I work.

"He helps myself and will help all the players and all the staff and everyone at the club so he is definitely one of the utmost importance.”
