Southampton and Everton have still not reached an agreement over Ronald Koeman, despite talks being held on Sunday night in an effort to make a breakthrough.

Everton want to appoint Koeman as successor to Roberto Martinez, who was shown the door at Goodison Park in May after losing the backing of the club's fans.

Koeman has agreed personal terms with the Toffees, but as he is still under contract at Southampton, Everton must reach an agreement with their Premier League rivals to release the Dutch tactician.

And according to BBC Radio Solent, despite talks being held on Sunday night, no resolution has yet been reached.

The compensation fee Southampton are looking for is around the £5m mark.

Koeman took over at St Mary's in the summer of 2014 and led the Saints to a finish of seventh in his first season in charge at the club.

He guided Southampton to sixth in the recently concluded season, securing Europa League football for next term.

And his work on the south coast has made him the man Everton want to bring about a revival at Goodison Park.
