Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon has revealed that the appointment of Brendan Rodgers at Paradise has removed the sense of dread that players feel when they have to report back for pre-season training.

Rodgers has taken over at Celtic on a one-year rolling contract, succeeding Ronny Deila as Bhoys manager following the Norwegian's departure at the end of the season.

The clock is ticking on Celtic's players reporting back for pre-season training to kick off preparations for the forthcoming 2016/17 campaign.

The hard graft associated with pre-season often makes it a period players hate, but Gordon insists the presence of Rodgers at Celtic means that the club's players cannot now wait to report back for work.

And the goalkeeper says the sense of excitement at Rodgers' appointment is something which has spread beyond the dressing room and to the club as a whole.

"It's a massive appointment, a huge name and a great track record to be coming in with", he told BBC Scotland.

"For me personally it's very exciting and I think the rest of the players are of the same mindset that we can't wait to get in, see how he wants the team to set up, see how he wants the team to play and learn what he wants us to do.

"That's the most exciting part of it going into pre-season.

"Normally you dread going back in, thinking it's going to be hard work, but the excitement from the players, the staff and everybody around the club…they are so looking forward to the start of this season", Gordon added.

Celtic are involved in the International Champions Cup pre-season tournament this summer and will play Leicester City, Barcelona and Inter.
