Stoke City have made an official offer for Zenit St. Petersburg midfielder Axel Witsel, according to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato.

The Potters have been linked with a move for the Belgian midfielder this summer and there has been talk of the club making a move for the player over the last few weeks.

The Premier League club were reportedly set to meet the player’s representatives last week to hold talks over a transfer to the Britannia Stadium, and it seems the discussions have gone according to plan.

It has been claimed that Stoke have finally made a formal offer to Zenit for Witsel and have tabled a bid of €15m; they have also prepared a contract for the player worth €3.5m per season.

Roma are also interested in the Belgian, but unlike Stoke they are yet to make concrete move for a player it has been suggested that Zenit are prepared to sell.

The midfielder has a contract until the end of next season, and the club are unwilling to lose the player on a free transfer next summer.

The Russian outfit forked out €40m to sign the Belgian international from Benfica in 2012.

Witsel is also an established figure in his national team and has earned 65 caps for Belgium.
