Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has raised the prospect of a return to former club Hannover 96 at some point in the future.

The 31-year-old former Germany international was born in Hannover and started his career in the youth ranks at the club.

Mertesacker turned out for Hannover 96 until leaving to join Werder Bremen in 2006.

The centre-back currently plays for Arsene Wenger's Arsenal, though at 31 years old may be giving thought to eventual life away from the Premier League club.

And Mertesacker feels that a return to Hannover 96 in some capacity at some point would be something well worth considering.
