Stoke City target Axel Witsel’s agent has revealed that his client is keen to join Roma this summer and reunite with his former Zenit Saint Petersburg manager Luciano Spalletti.

The Belgian midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away from Zenit this summer and with his contract set to expire at the end of next season, the club are also said to be keen to earn a fee from his sale.

Stoke City are interested in signing the former Benfica man and reportedly tabled a bid for Witsel in recent weeks, but it seems they could miss out on his signature.

Roma are also said to be ready to make an offer for the midfielder  and Witsel’s agent, Riccardo Napolitano, revealed that his client prefers a move to the Stadio Olimpico in order to again work under the tutelage of Spalletti.

Napolitano told ReteSport: “Witsel would like to join Roma and work under Spalletti, just like his days at Zenit.”
