Harry Redknapp feels that if Rangers snap up veteran defender Clint Hill then they will be bagging a "leader who wants to win".

Now 37 years old, Hill was released by QPR at the end of the recently concluded season and is now looking for a new club, something which has seen Rangers linked with making a move for the defender.

Hill worked under Redknapp at QPR and the former R's boss thinks little notice should be paid to the defender's advancing years as he is still firmly in good shape.

And Redknapp has strongly recommended Hill as a signing to Rangers boss Mark Warburton.

He told STV: "He's in absolutely great shape

"He trains well, looks after himself and he's a family man. I couldn't speak highly enough of him.

"[Rangers would be] getting a good player, a character, a leader who wants to win. He's fit as a fiddle and doesn't carry an ounce of excess weight on him.

"He's a good lad, a tough lad with a good left foot who loves a tackle", Redknapp explained.

"He's a very good player who would be an excellent signing on a free transfer."

Warburton is looking to add experience to his squad as he prepares Rangers for life back in the top flight of Scottish football, where they will instantly be expected to once again challenge fierce rivals Celtic.

Hill will turn 38 in October, when the season will be only two months old.
