Borussia Dortmund have softened their stance on Manchester United target Henrikh Mkhitaryan, following discussions within the club.

Mkhitaryan has just a year remaining on his contract with the Ruhr giants and is refusing to put pen to paper on an extension, with his agent Mino Raiola pushing for his client to be sold to Manchester United.

Dortmund have been firm in their stance that Mkhitaryan will not leave, especially as Mats Hummels and Ilkay Gundogan have already departed this summer.

But according to German magazine Kicker, that stance has now changed and Dortmund are willing to sell Mkhitaryan if they receive an offer which they feel is substantially above his value.

Privately the Bundesliga giants accept that they would sell the midfielder if Manchester United make a bid of €40m; so far the best offer to arrive from the Red Devils is €24m, a figure that Dortmund have not been moved by.

While Dortmund did keep hold of striker Robert Lewandowski for the final year of his contract before he left for Bayern Munich, and the Poland star scored 20 league goals, there is no guarantee Mkhitaryan would keep up his performance levels with his heart elsewhere.

Thomas Tuchel's men have already started to identify replacements for Mkhitaryan and at the top of their list is Wolfsburg's Andre Schurrle.
