Borussia Dortmund are edging towards giving the green light on selling Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Manchester United after the Red Devils doubled their original bid for the winger.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is desperate to see Mkhitaryan land at Old Trafford this summer and the English giants have been trying to break down Dortmund's resistance.

Despite being unwilling to extend his contract which has a year to run, Mkhitaryan had hit a brick wall, with Dortmund unwilling to sell.

But the situation has changed after Manchester United almost doubled their initial offer of €24m for the winger, according to German magazine Kicker, up to around €42.5m.

Such a sum would be a club record sale figure for Dortmund and make the departure of Mkhitaryan easier to swallow.

Dortmund's stance has now softened and the club are set to hold high level talks at which Mkhitaryan's departure is expected to be rubber stamped.

The Ruhr giants have already lost defender Mats Hummels, to Bayern Munich, and Ilkay Gundogan, to Manchester City this summer.
