New Rangers signing Matt Crooks believes that the Gers should aim to qualify for Europe in their first season back in the Premiership.

Crooks, 22, joined the Glasgow based club from English fourth division club Accrington Stanley. The Rangers new signing is someone who is a central midfielder by trade, but is able to slot into defence as a centre-back when needed.

Crooks, who signed a pre-contractual agreement with Rangers in January, believes his new club should aim to qualify for European competition, while he also insists that he also has some learning to do when it comes to the Scottish game.

He told the official Rangers website:  “I probably didn’t know quite as much as I should about Scottish football, but I’m sure I’ll learn in the coming days and weeks. I almost went to Ross County on loan when I was 17, but beyond that I only really know about Rangers and Celtic.

“The Old Firm games are the biggest in world football, and the atmosphere is on a different be even better at Ibrox and Parkhead.

“We have a chance of qualifying for Europe too, so that’s really something to aim for.”

Crooks’ capture was accompanied by that of Josh Windass from Stanley, after compensation terms were agreed by both clubs, as the duo had signed pre-contract deals with the Gers.

Rangers, who are currently at a training camp in the United States during which they will face Charleston Battery, are set to make their return to the Scottish Premiership following their Championship triumph last season.
