Monaco have lodged a bid for Lille defender Djibril Sidibe, who has also been linked with Sunderland, but it is lower than his asking price.

Sidibe had a solid season at Lille last term and Monaco are desperate to add the 23-year-old to their ranks at the Stade Louis II.

They have now made a concrete play to sign Sidibe and, according to French radio station RMC, have slapped in an offer of €12m.

However, Lille are demanding €15m as a minimum price to part with the France Under-21 international, meaning no agreement has been reached.

Talks between the two clubs are continuing as Monaco look to find common ground with Lille and the principality club may be willing to allow midfielder Rony Lopes to go the other way on loan as a sweetener.

Sidibe, who can operate as both a right-back and a left-back, has also been linked with Premier League outfit Sunderland.

The Black Cats have not yet made a move for Sidibe, but it has been claimed they could offer €15m, which would hit Lille's asking price for the defender.

Sidibe has proven to be an effective performer for Lille in recent seasons and last term played in all but one of the club's 38 Ligue 1 fixtures.
