Leicester City are not signing midfielder Nampalys Mendy as a replacement for N'Golo Kante, news which suggests the Foxes have not given up hope of keeping the France international.

The Foxes have moved to scoop up the 24-year-old defensive midfielder from French side Nice and he has been mooted as a replacement for the in-demand Kante.

Kante, who has a release clause of just €25m in his Leicester contract and has been linked with a whole host of clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, is a wanted man this summer.

But according to BBC East Midlands Today, Mendy has not been signed by the Foxes as a replacement for Kante.

Leicester are keen to do all they can to keep hold of Kante and are hoping he follows in the footsteps of team-mate Jamie Vardy by rejecting a move elsewhere.
