Marseille have been encouraged in their pursuit of Swansea City striker Bafetimbi Gomis.

The French giants have just sold Michy Batshuayi to Chelsea, pocketing €40m for the Belgium international, something which means they are now working hard to secure a replacement.

Gomis is the Stade Velodrome side's first choice and Marseille are keen on a loan deal.

Marseille have been concerned about the financial impact of paying Gomis' wages, but have been encouraged by the fact the striker is keen on a move to the Stade Velodrome, according to French outlet Maxifoot.

Gomis currently earns €5m per year at the Liberty Stadium, but Swansea could be willing to allow him to move on loan to Marseille without a fee, it has been claimed.

Marseille though do face competition for Gomis' signature, with Sunderland mooted as being keen on the 30-year-old.

The Black Cats would be likely to be at a financial advantage compared to Marseille, while it remains to be seen whether Gomis may prefer to continue to play his football in the Premier League, something else which could boost the Black Cats.

Gomis moved to Swansea in 2014 from French giants Lyon and put pen to paper on a contract running until the summer of 2014 in Wales.
