Andy Halliday feels Rangers have a healthy squad ahead of the new season and is keen to avoid the trouble they had to face towards the end of the 2015/16 campaign.

While Rangers won promotion by winning the Championship, they just tipped over the line towards the end and also lost the Scottish Cup final to Hibernian, as the limitations of their small squad came to the fore.

Mark Warburton has addressed that problem by signing eight new players this summer, with more expected to follow, and Halliday is excited that there is finally some competition for places in the Rangers team.

He believes no player should be complacent enough to take his place for granted at a club such as Rangers, and is confident that they will not have to face the same problems that they had to encounter towards the end of last season.

When asked about the competitive nature of the Rangers squad, the midfielder told Rangers TV: “I mean it’s so healthy.

“That’s what it is all about to be at Rangers Football Club; it’s not your right to be playing every week, regardless of what you are doing in training or in games.

“And that competition is healthy; we have added a lot of good players and it’s a lot healthier squad.

“You look at the game against Celtic or the cup final – instead of seven substitutes, but we can only put five, and one of them was a 17-year-old boy.”

Warburton is expected to add a few more faces to the Rangers squad before the window closes next month.
