New Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers believes that young Moussa Dembele did well during the club’s recent friendly, while he also saw positive signs when the Frenchman linked up with Leigh Griffiths.

Celtic took on Slovenian champions Olimpija Ljubljana earlier this week in a game that saw Rodgers’ men grab a 2-1 win, thanks to a brace from striker Griffiths, who won the Scottish Premiership’s Player of the Year award last season.

The Glasgow based giants have already played two friendlies, against Austrian side Sturm Graz and NK Celje, along with their clash against the Slovenian side. Sturm Graz were beaten 1-0, while Celje were held to a 2-2 draw.

Rodgers has heaped praise on Dembele, who was signed by Celtic from Fulham earlier this summer, and featured against Olimpija Ljubljana.

The Celtic boss was also encouraged by the early signs of a partnership between Dembele and Griffiths.

Rodgers told the official Celtic website: “This is only his first week training but since coming he has looked very strong, fast and mobile and you could see that combination up front with him and Leigh Griffiths, and other teams will have someone else to focus on.

“He obviously tired a little bit but I felt he did very well.”

19-year-old Dembele, who is a striker by trade, has been snapped up by Celtic following the captures of Kristoffer Ajer from IK Start and PJ Crossan from Dunfermline.
