West Ham United attacking midfielder Manuel Lanzini is proud at having been named in Argentina's 18-man squad for the Rio Olympics.

Lanzini is among the bigger names to be included in the squad that will take part in the tournament in Brazil in August.

The player, who enjoyed an impressive debut season in the Premier League with the Hammers last term, insists that it is a matter of great pride for him and he can't wait to take to the field for his national team.

Lanzini's country won gold in the Olympics both in 2004 and 2008, a fact that makes them one of the favourites going into the tournament this year.

Moreover, with the tournament being held in South America this year, their chances will be even higher and the 23-year-old insists that he and his team-mates will have to give their everything in order to come away with the ultimate prize.

"I am very happy for this, representing my national team is always special", Lanzini told West Ham's official website.

"It's a big tournament and is being held in South America, which is good for us and important for Argentina.

"For Argentina, going to the Olympics to take the Gold is something we always try to achieve.

"It is very important for the country and we will do all we can to take the Gold again."

Lanzini, who joined the Hammers initially on loan and then on a permanent deal last season, managed a total of 26 league appearances for the club scoring six goals and also set up two more for his team-mates.
