Despite the breakdown of his move to Sunderland, Davide Santon may still end up playing in the Premier League this season as Crystal Palace have renewed their interest in the defender, according to Italian outlet Gazza Mercato.

It appeared that Santon was all set to link up with Sunderland after he arrived in England with his representatives to seal the deal last week.

But at the last minute, Sunderland called the deal off and claimed they had been unable to reach an agreement with Inter for the defender. Other reports from Italy claimed Santon refused to have a clause included in his contract which meant his wages would be cut if the Black Cats were relegated.

He is still available this summer and could end up at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew is a firm fan of Santon, who he managed at Newcastle, and the Eagles are rekindling their interest in the full-back.

Inter are now waiting for Palace to change their interest into a concrete move for the defender.

A switch to London may appeal for Santon, who wants to play regular first team football next season.

He started last season in the team at Inter, but following an injury in the run-up to Christmas, could not regain his place.
