Leeds United are being advised not to sign Joel Ekstrand due to his recent injury record, it has been claimed.

Ekstrand is a free agent this summer following his departure from Premier League side Watford and is now looking for a new challenge.

He had been expected to link up with Leeds under head coach Garry Monk, with the Whites even tipped as having the deal for the defender all but done.

But the Yorkshire giants are being advised against signing Ekstrand due to injury worries, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Ekstrand notably suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury in March 2015, resulting in a lengthy injury layoff.

And it appears Leeds may well not push a deal through due to worries over the Sweden international's ability to cope with the heavy slog of the Championship.

Ekstrand has interest from other Championship sides, while clubs abroad are also keen.

Leeds have brought in one new centre-back this summer, loaning Kyle Bartley from Swansea City.
