Tottenham Hotspur have beaten off intense competition from Hamburg to land Marseille winger Georges-Kevin N'Koudou, who is expected to sign for the White Hart Lane side in the coming days.

Spurs had been aiming to snap up Michy Batshuayi from Marseille, however boss Mauricio Pochettino also identified N'Koudou as someone he wanted to add to his squad.

The north London club missed out on Batshuayi, but are set to win the race for N'Koudou, despite competition from Sevilla and Hamburg, according to French sports daily L'Equipe.

Hamburg in particular sunk time into tempting the 21-year-old to Germany. The Bundesliga side first courted the winger constantly on the phone, while they then showed him a video presentation of the squad and the club, trying to charm him into agreeing to a move.

Spurs launched their own charm offensive too however and Pochettino hit the phone to sell the White Hart Lane outfit to the Frenchman.

He was successful and now the winger is heading to England.

Marseille are expected to pocket €13m from Tottenham for N'Koudou, a big profit for the French club, who paid just €1.5m to sign him from Nantes last summer.

At international level, the winger has turned out for France's Under-17s, Under-19s and Under-20s, while he is currently an Under-21 international.
