Leeds United target Anthony Limbombe has submitted a sick note, meaning his absence from NEC Nijmegen is within the law.

The winger left NEC training on Friday after being unhappy at the Dutch side being unwilling to accept a €1.7m offer for his services from Club Brugge.

He was told to report for training at 9am on Monday morning or face disciplinary action – however Limbombe did not show up and it was reported the club stopped paying his salary as his absence is unauthorised.

But according to Belgian daily Het Laaste Nieuws, Limbombe has handed in a sick note, meaning his absence is still within the law.

NEC have refused to accept Club Brugge's bid for Limbombe as they know Leeds, Granada and Toulouse are all prepared to pay a higher price.

The Eredivisie side even have a draft agreement in place with Toulouse, but Limbombe does not want to join the French team.

It is unclear what Limbombe is claiming to have been struck down by, however NEC are unlikely to be pleased with his sick leave during the middle of a transfer dispute.
