Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is due to hold talks with Mauro Icardi's agent as he sets about trying to replace Gonzalo Higuain.

Juventus have activated Higuain's €94.7m release clause to take him to Turin, leaving De Laurentiis powerless to prevent his star striker's departure.

Now Napoli are looking at replacements and Icardi is the preferred option of coach Maurizio Sarri.

Icardi has been heavily linked with Arsenal and his wife, Wanda Icardi, who also acts as his agent, recently held talks with Gunners officials.

According to Sky Italia, De Laurentiis is now poised to follow suit and has left Napoli's pre-season training camp in order to hold talks with Wanda.

Icardi's agents are claimed to have signalled their client would be keen to link up with Napoli if a deal can be done with Inter.

A move to Napoli would guarantee Champions League football for Icardi in the forthcoming season as the Azzurri finished second in Serie A last term.

However, Arsenal could yet choose to rival Napoli for the striker's signature as they hunt another goalscorer.
