Rangers midfielder Jason Holt has revealed that the whole squad are looking forward to working with a player of Joey Barton’s calibre next season.

Many felt Mark Warburton pulled off a coup when he convinced Barton to shun Premier League football with Burnley to move to Rangers earlier in the summer transfer window.

Barton played a pivotal role in Burnley earning promotion to the Premier League and was named in the Championship Team of the Year for his efforts.

Rangers are expecting that the veteran midfielder will add much needed experience to their midfield in their first season back in the Premiership, and Holt admits that all the players are excited about working with Barton.

The midfielder himself is keen to learn a few tricks from the 33-year-old, who has more than 250 Premier League appearances under his belt.

Hold told the club’s official website: “I speak for the rest of the players when I say we’re really looking forward to playing with Joey, training with him and being in and around him on a day to day basis.

“I’m sure I’ll learn a lot from him, along with the other experienced players who have come into the club over the summer.”

Barton has already cranked up the Old Firm heat ahead of the season by criticising Celtic captain Scott Brown, who he feels is not up to his level.
