Rangers manager Mark Warburton has picked out Joey Barton and Niko Kranjcar for their positive performances against Stranraer last night.

Both new signings started in the League Cup game and were impressive as Rangers ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at Ibrox, and moved into the last 16 of the competition.

The former Queens Park Rangers duo have been signed this summer to provide experience to the Rangers midfield ahead of their season back in the Premiership.

Warburton picked out Barton’s performance, and feels despite not being at the same level of fitness as the others in the squad, the veteran midfielder showed enough of his qualities last night.

The Rangers manager was also happy to see Kranjcar complete his first 90 minutes after signing for the club, and is pleased with the way things are shaping up for the Croat.

Warburton told the club’s official website: “Joey was very positive in possession, positive in decision making and used the ball very wisely, he is a very experienced pro so I’m delighted he got a good hour under his belt.

“He is behind the group in terms of fitness so it’s really pleasing to see that and on Saturday against Burnley we’ll get more time out of him.

“We are getting there, we have just under two weeks left and if we use him wisely we will be okay.

“It was great to see Niko score and for him to get 90 minutes, he has come through fitness wise and he has been working hard with the team.”

In little under two weeks Rangers will be preparing for their first game of the Premiership campaign when they host Hamilton on 6th August.
